168 Hour Assingment Reflection

For this Assignment we had to map out our week, accounting for work, free time, eating, sleeping. Basically anything we did that took up time went up on the chart. Between work and school I found that I actually did have quite a few hours to dedicate to assignments.

Overall this assignment reminded me of why I like to do lists. They allow you to easily see your weekly plan or in some cases goals. I also realized that while I'm good at making a list of "to do's" or short term goals, I fall short on being able to really capture and notate long term goals. I can certainly visualize long term goals, however the act of physically writing them down never happened for me. I keep hearing in various classes how crucial it is to claim your long-term goals. The five year goal, the ten year goal, I've stated these to myself in my head but year after year they failed to become realized.

I believe somewhere along my life I became cynical about my long-term goals, which by the way are all entertainment industry driven. After years of wear and tear on my psyche I threw caution to the wind and stopped focusing on the long term and just focused on the steps right in front of me. Unfortunately I found myself only completing day-to-day arbitrary goals that lead nowhere near my long-term goals. I somehow lost my master plan.

Then an epiphany happened. I visited a friend who was steadily doing well in his career and finally bought an amazing house.  This man, who has the same career path as me was now living the dream. He admitted to setting a goal of owning a property within 10 years. Setting daily, weekly, monthly measurable goals was the key to his success. Needless to say I was inspired and plan to do the same.
